It’s a wise decision, as in many past years, to retreat to a hidey-hole instead of gadding around outside in order to avoid the mind-numbing oppressive crowds of week-long national holidays. We made it to Xi’an two days before the May Day holiday, so this time Xi’an has been such a hideaway..

跟过去多年一样，一到长假就一定要找个地方呆着躲起来，决不能出去。人太多，实在受不了。五一长假，两天前就到了西安，是明智之举。这次，西安就是这样一个供躲起来的地方。

Shushu Lishulin treats suhshu Shuiyongchang and me to a sumptuous fish lunch at a nongjiale food joint at the foothills of Qinling mountains, and I take Yunduo’er there. The two were my middle school classmates. Shushu Shui fusses over Yunduo’er sitting between him and me and teaches her the table manners of clinking glasses, pushes Yunduo’er on a swing and rides a horse with Yunduo’er. And Yunduo’er obviously enjoys congenial shushu Shui’s pleasant company and always latches onto him. The heartwarming moments are to be put into the file of the day of Diaries and is a fond memory to be rekindled after Yunduo’er attains adulthood.

叔叔李树林在秦岭山脚下的一处农家乐请水永昌叔叔和我吃了一大顿鱼，我把云朵儿也带去了。他们俩是我的中学同学。云朵儿坐在我和水叔叔之间，水叔叔照顾云朵儿吃饭，教她中国人桌上的碰杯。饭后推云朵儿荡秋千，跟云朵儿骑马。水叔叔的亲和力让云朵儿很愉快，云朵儿总是缠着他不放。对于云朵儿而言，这一天充满了愉快的瞬间，记录于《云朵儿日记》当日文件夹。等云朵儿长大了，都是她的美好回忆。

After lunch, we visit a middle school classmate who is now living a monastic life as Master Shijuefang at a stellar temple Xiangjisi. What dictates the paths of a lifetime?

午饭后来到著名的香积寺，一个中学同学在这里已成为“释觉方”大师。人生，不知什么因缘，就会走上不同的道路。

We go back to Xi’an proper very late. Night is wearing on as our palates are being pleased by the roast mutton meal Ershu invites us to.

很晚了才回到西安市区。夜色中我们吃美味烧烤，二叔请的。
